The data presented in this folder is based on research-thoughts-ideas-desires of 100’s of people. They are not chronical, or serialised or in tandem. These are the question that were put to DCT. DCT is Thankful to them, and wish similar co-operation from them in time to come. There may be presentation, grammatical and other mistakes. DCT requests Reader’s to suggest corrections. Complied by M.S.Raj (Chairman and founder trustee). They helped us plan this project in max. details.

DCT Suggest the reader’s to donate few minutes of their valuable time

If read with an open mind this folder may answer

your doubts about the project

you have selected Yelagiri as a potential site for your project, which is quiet salubrious and peaceful. At the same time it is quite a distance away from from major cities like Chennai or Bangalore, especially for Senior Citizens. I do not blame the site selection, you must have definetly done your home work on all the factors . Don’t you think it is far from medical facilities?

Rightly said,I have selected the site after vsiting lots of places and especially land cost factor, facilities available, peace and tranquility.  Not much traffic, temprement cliamte, easy accessibilty to hospital. Just 20 Kms down the hill and a hour drive on the highway the famous CMC hosplital at Vellore. Excellent 4 lane highway. Cities, in present days are more crowded and polluting. It is the land cost factor which is the starting stumbling block. Everything is not at a stones throw even in Cities. Time taken is more or less equal for any emergencies because of traffic in cities.

Who is going to look after the project and thereafter, unless you have someone who is  dedicated trustworthy and organise things?

I intend to dispose off my business and possessions for this purpose and live in the Ashram forever. Once the project starts I am sure there are many more like me. People in nearby area’s will come forward with assistance, though may not be to my extent. There are many rich and famous people in Chennai-Bangalore.

As per my discussion with people they are willing to contribute but desire to be prominent and recoganisation is very apparent. “My name should be there and at all places, should be prominent and visible” I have no problem on this front as I am willing do anything that they suggest to maintain their Ego and Polical ambitions and vice-versa status quo is maintained throught out and forever. What would they do if they are in similar situation? This needs deeper introspection by all concerned. Donate equally and I will share attitude is a character-which needs consistent upgrade’s. No polictics and take over bids please. If so refrain and bless the project.

Will this not result in frequent intervention and may harm the project from the beginning itself?

This can be handle gracefully and why not people should be respected for their noble deeds and contributions. If basic concept and thoughts are same I do not see any problem, unless they are frequently changed to accommodate people. Unless we get 5 like minded people who can contribute 25000-00 x 8 = 200000-00 in eight instalment/month this project cannot be started and hence this appeal. I will match them on this front.

Our first priority is to arrange the land and for this 5 people with intial capital are must.

Even if people agree for this someone has to break his soul to get the funds-come tommorow syndrom. It is not my project, no care attitude. In a haste first they commit under social pressure and then slowly withdraw and find faults on people who are doing the job. My dad-grandpa-brother is not willing sorry, no answer on phones, no reply to letters, mobile disconected on ring, not availbale, gone out. I have already suffered this pain and rejection, as if I am untouchable, they even go to the extent in propogating that I am a cheat,a fraud and asking them for my own richess.  They forget that it is they who agreed and vounteered, though at my request. Let us put a stop to all these and for once try to be real and genuine persons that we are and we care for others and are really not self seekers.

Why can’t you make it exclusive specific community or religion based only for a Jain’s, Agarwal’s, Gujarati’s, Hindu’s etc…..? After all they (business communities) will be major contributors? I noticed during my stays at various places in India and abroad they are the people who are always eager and willing donate for such projects.

I agree with you! But then my desire is to make this a non community - religion based charity project. I wish to join with people who think on such lines. In these days of democracy how can we be choosy from this

vast humanity. Business communities are setteld in every part of world and they know that the local community

have adopted them, respected them and made them succeed in life. They have created a name for themselves and are obliged. I belive in ‘Manav Dharma’ as the best of all religions. If I am not able to get people who think on such lines. I will go alone, but on a samller scale and slowly. Let others do what they choose to do. Otherwise don’t you think we are going to old days of casteism and untouchability (indirectly this is laready happening with me). I am sure this project and concept will find people. Time is the factor.

In these days of hypocracy and self gain attitude, are you sure your project will get satrted? Do you have the resources and backup? Are your rich enough to start on your own?

Who said only rich and famous people can do social service. Don’t you think few middle class like mineded people join and run such a project. I never say I am not self seeking, like them I too am human being living in this present days situations as they are. My desire, to be noticed and be famous as strong as theirs. There is generally a

                                                                                                                                                 Page – 2

wrong preception on social service as in many cases it has been used to cheat and earn money. We can’t call it charity, as charity will loose its defination. There are many old couples/singles who have money, are rich and famous and will be willing to contribute and become permanent trustees, for them 2 lakhs is nothing.

The cost of employing a doctor and providing basic medical facilities could be provided by the trust at a subsidy or all the more better for free!

Local doctor is available and is willing to be employed for genral medical check up on a monthly fee of Rs. 50-00 per person. Also as per govt. rules we are supposed to keep certain basic medicines and equipments at the site. Once the land Is paid for I intend to join course which trains people for first aid. Everybody irespective of their age will benefit and slowly all residents will be trained in first aid. All these will be free and provided by the Ashram.

Why are you asking the senior citizens for a refundable deposit of Rs. 21000-00 and in such case this project is not entirely based on charity principle? Moreover you intend to admit only senior citizens who can afford to pay for the sevices and from educated background. As they are going to deposit a refundable deposit of Rs. 21000-00, you cannot ask them to provide their services free of cost. Why should residents work for the Ashram when they are depositing such a sum?

I agree, senior citizens who can afford, pay for poor people and I do not find anything wrong with this. Concept of project below will answer many of your doubts. Please go through with an open mind.

Looks like you are busy at present and question are generating in your thoughts. Please be patient. In that case

the Ashram live the choice to genral public. On second thought your question itself answers. Senior citizens (SC) will do more harm to themselves if idle and no work culture is adopted. No work all pleasure is not medicaly advised. By being active, according to once capacity will help them live longer and enjoy the life.  Note: The deposit is refundable. Only genuine seniors will apply.

Guess you are right. I must be patient and read it a few times rather than genrate unwanted questions in my mind. I agree you have to be choosy and later on may be……

You are free to ask me any thing that comes to your mind. I must be transparent in my thoughts-deeds. This will make me more humble and a better human. SC’s when initially admitted will help the project with their ideas and knowledge in their respective field and help reduce professional, devlopement, establishment cost of the project and by being busy they will help themselves. Remember an adage “nothing is for free”.

Also I will not be alone, there are checks in stages, by NGO’s, Auditors, Govt. agencies, committee members, permanent Trustees & indiviuals like you. This clears your doubts.

What is DCT? How did you arive at this name? The Project name “ Sada Sukhi Ashram” sounds good and is excellent choice meaning “always be happy”.

Thank you for compliments. DCT Stands for “Dhanamashvi Charitable Trust” and Dhanmashvi was arrived from initial of my family members. This is like everyone’s wishes and desire. Hope this explains.

This is one question almost everyone whom I have met in North Indian Community have asked and I’m surprised at that.

What if someone is willing to donate and contribute a large amount for this project and may expect the name to be changed on his family or Clan.

Nothing wrong. They are welcome. In that case let them form their own trust and will be merged in the project tiltile. Such as DCT, ACT, XYZ jointly presents a social service project for Senior Citizens “ Sada Sukhi Ashram”. Basic remains unchanged. These things cannot and be repeatedly changed. Guess this is self explainatory.

Further discussions will be waste of time and energy. Once again everybody wants a answer on this. Is it bothering you dear friend. Do feel free in telling me or suggest an alternative.

May be you are right. Lots of cow-webs? Sorry! please don’t mistake me. Why should I contribute when I do not even know your bonafidness? Are you genuine in approach.

This is democracy and you need not if you do not feel comfortable - justified. No one can go on proving everyone on this. Now you are thinking, but slight deviation, they pay for poor people who really can’t afford. The cost of handling a senor citizen (SC) is 200-00 a day, i.e. 200 x 40=800 x 365 days = 292000-00 a year. This apart from initial investment of Rs. One crore on infrastructure. Certianly I am not Ambani-Tata or Birla. Let us start and see where we reach. Also I am positive there are genuine rich and famous people who will join me, Without changes and distrbance on the basics of the project. Intend to collect by cheque 101-00 only from genral public.

If my intention is to make money I need not dispose off my business and live in Ashram with the Residents.” There has to be someone to make a genuine beginning”. People do have money and want to do social service, but lack of man power, time and trust don’t do charity. I am sure when they find some project like this, they will come forward. They are going to part of all decisions  and if you are honest no one needs to fear anyone. No one can withdraw money without 3 signatories and 2/3rd majority decision. If some one is investing hard earned money they will also benefit on name and fame in the society and nothing wrong in that.

I feel that income generated and surplus funds made availble could be used for creating more amenties and

employing people for day-to-day upkeep and running fo the Ashram. This project will be suitable for people who’s seniors are not being taken care of and not being attended to for NRI’s and foreigners and local rich families.

Obiviously, do you think otherwise. Few rich SC’s of the Ashram can take care of geniune poor deserving people.

There are lots of seniors, well established-educated-rich in their prime time, have been left to suffer when they

need their children’s assistance most, in the last part of their journey.

Page – 3

Are you taking care of your parents? Are your children happy on this kind of social serivces project? Are they with you?

No I have not. This is one guilt, which has prompted me to go in for such a project. I too have a deisre to become a better human than I was. Man changes through his commisions and ommissions. By this project I will have 40 foster parents to look after for. I could not think of anything better than this. If you have any better idea please suggest. I have informed them about project and sought their blessings.

Once ready I have requested my parents to come and live in the Ashram. I have no intention to impose my thoughts on them or my children. They are if willing welcome. It is their life and they have rights to do what they desire to. Yes presently, I am living with my son and I am proud of him. He is taking good care of me and feels I can choose do anything that I desire to. Time and fate is the only answer left on this issue. This entire project is my thought and idea and I hold no one responsible for any wrong in my family or anyone else. Be positive friend.

Medical issue needs careful handlings or else the ashram may land up in litigations.

SC’s are experienced enough to know that the management of the Ashram, will not be responsible for any kind natural or unnatural incidents and accidents that may occur. Our main aim is to provide decent food, living environment for free of cost to the senior Citizens.

A local MBBS doctor will be appointed to handle emergency treatment and plan further treatment. Ashram, management or the appointed doctor will not be  held responsible in the event of impossibilities and every effort is being made to explain this to the SC’s and their wards on admission and repeatedly their after. This is being printed on the admission form itself. Do you have any better legal language on this, do write to us.

With the help of lawyer’s Rules can be framed in such ways to avoid litigations.

Why not in and around Chennai? More People can visit and do social service. Why on a hill station so far Chennai?

I cannot dream of 3-4 acres of land in 100 KMs. radius of Chennai. At the cost of 1 or half acre near Chennai or Bangalore, at that cost I am sure we can get 3-4 acres at Yelagiri. People who want to do social service will go to any part of the world. Social service is done from heart and for satisfaction of the inner-self.

It will be genral excuse for people who do not want to contribute or find faults to get away from the social pressures. Why on a hill station? – good question.

Being a Marwari North Indian and a businesman by birth I am thinking of revenue generation. 1) we can have tourist cottages, earn revnue. 2) Can grow some hard to get herbal Medicinal plants-market and earn. This income will become permanent solution, instead of depending on people’s charity or donation. You cannot consistently ask your friends, relatives for donations. I find difficult to even get 101-00 from them without 100 explainations and visits and ultimately loose them in my mind and thoughts.

That is why I term this project as “ Self sustaining and income genrating concept”

How about using solar heaters, solar lighting, solar panels as emegency backups. And bio gas from waste for cooking?

Yes I have already informed you about in my earlier mail and this is the best way instead depending on Govt. power. This is one time High investment, but worth every penny. Solar pumps though costly are also availble will be used for gardening, land scape maintainance, agriculture and rain water harvesting concept have been incorporated in the plan, depending on the availibilty of funds and public charity.

Every effort will be made to see that this project is truly international . It will be like going back to nature and yet remain, modern in terms of technology use. Bless DCT in its vision.

Guess you are right! Excellent presentation, shall meet you when I happen return from USA, to be in Chennai may be around 2006. sure you will find right people and all the best.

I will  be happy to meet you. Take you to Yelagiri and show you around. In the mean time please connect the website on local search engines in USA. Thanks a lot.

What about inclusions of trustees and their family members for life of the Ashram?

Anybody who can contribute up to 2 lakhs in the initial stage is welcome. They can pay only by cheque in part of 25000 x 8 installments in eight months. They will become permanent Hereditry trustees. 5 such people-families or trusts are immeditely required to start the project. I am ready, are your ready and willing.

What about committee members, other than trustees?

I have already sent to you the details by mail on” committee members duties and privileges”. We can go in for 15-member team of social workers on voluntary basis and give them the respective powers to carry out the project to its logical end. Committee’s will directly work under the permanents trustees. The committee members too will have to contribute a minimum of Rs. 11000-00 thousand towards, so that their commitment is firm and positive, otherwise unnecessary problem creators will hinder the progress of the project. It is a pity very few Indians in India responded with ideas, majority of suggstions-questions were from abroad. Are we really moralistic or has India lost its culture of caring and sharing.
