The republic of India is divided in to 29 states---Andhra Pradesh; Arunachal Pradesh; Assam; Bihar; Chhattisgarh; Delhi; Goa; Gujarat; Haryana; Himachal Pradesh; Jammu and Kashmir; Jharkhand; Karnataka; Kerala; Madhya Pradesh; Maharashtra; Manipur; Meghalaya; Mizoram; Nagaland; Orissa; Punjab; Rajasthan; Sikkim; Tamil Nadu; Tripura; Uttaranchal; Uttar Pradesh; and West Bengal. There are also six union territories, administered by the federal government: the Andaman and Nicobar Islands; Chandigarh; Dadra and Nagar Haveli; Daman and Diu; Lakshadweep; and Pondicherry.
Hindi is the national language and is the primary tongue of 30% of the people; there are 14 other official languages: Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, Gujarati, Malayalam, Kannada, Oriya, Punjabi, Assamese, Kashmiri, Sindhi, and Sanskrit. Hindustani is a popular variant of Hindi/Urdu spoken widely throughout northern India but is not an official language
The capital of India is Delhi while the commerical capital is Mumbai. Indians were formely ruled by the British and were freed from their tangles on 15th August 1947, which is why every year Independence day is celebrate on 15 of August
